1.1-Day Guided Trek to Lao Chai & Ta Van with Lunch

★★★★★★★★★★4.9 · 416 reviews · 1 day · from $34Our pick

Walk from Sapa through rice terraces, streams, bamboo paths, and mountain villages with a local English-speaking guide such as Giang or Toan. You will visit Black Hmong and Zay communities, eat a generous local lunch in Lao Chai, learn about village life, and see traditional incense making in Ta Van. Expect muddy, uneven trails in wet weather.

“We had a really lovely day out with Lam, and got very lucky with good weather. Our only little note for other travellers to consider, is that other villagers are extremely persistent in selling their wares, not only in the market place/ towns/ road side but will actually follow you on long portions of the trail. We had someone follow us for several hours, walking along side who after we’d said “no thanks to” many times we were told by other villagers she’d only come with us to try and sell, and would now be walking back many hours to find other people to do it all again.”

Our guide Sue was very friendly and kept the group together during a slippery hike down the hill. The Weather was fine, just foggy in Sapa which is totally normal for this time of the year (March). The views were amazing when we arrive at the valley, but we were told that it is even more beautiful in…”
